Holland-born, West Vancouver-raised Carla Tak left home and school at the age of 15, beginning a lifetime of experiences that ultimately became her greatest teachers. As a teen she lived in Gastown, and later moved on to Los Angeles, New York, and Florida. After years in psychotherapy and inspired by the bold expressive abstractions of the postwar New York School, Tak began painting again when she was 50. Her process is both physical and intuitive as she seeks to find structure and clarity through her mark-making, bringing chaos back into resolution. Her works are held in collections in Canada and the United States.
