Iris Mes-Low, a third generation Dutch-born artist, has been painting for over 30 years. She is also an experienced muralist and illustrator. In 1991, Mes-Low made a permanent move to the West Coast of Canada where she continued her studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. Mes Low’s art is a fluid and ever-changing exchange between the canvas and images of her subconscious. Her approach to landscape is one of tightening forms and accentuating the intensity of the environment — creating idealistic, utopic abstractions of the scene. Her trees take on human-like characteristics as they congregate against dawning skies and urban hubs of suburbia. Her signature style is achieved through various layers of thinly applied oil paint to achieve a shimmering quality.
