This morning we headed over to Arts Umbrella South Surrey to check out an HSBC Environmental Education Program day! The HSBC Environmental Education Program is a free outreach program offered to local elementary schools at no cost and gives students the chance to artistically explore an environmental topic.
While Arts Umbrella South Surrey is already an energetic space, once the kids walked in the front office got a lot brighter. It was easy to tell they were excited about the day ahead of them.
Today, the students were learning about pollination through visual and media arts in the morning, and a theatre class in the afternoon. They quickly got to work creating beautiful birds and mixed-media pieces. By the afternoon, students were using their artwork in the theatre class. Once the day was over, they were so excited to share what they had created with their families!
The HSBC Environmental Education Program is an important part of Arts Umbrella’s outreach program because it provides schools with financial and geographical barriers to the arts access to high quality arts education. Also, we think the kids would agree that it’s a nice change from a day spent in the classroom!
Thank you so much to HSBC for helping Arts Umbrella continue to inspire kids for life through the arts!
