Kate studied art at Dawson College in Montreal, Concordia U and Instituto Allende in Mexico and obtained her B.A in Visual Arts and B. Ed from the University of Ottawa.She has worked with children in many different capacities including Child Life Worker at a children's hospital in Ottawa and as a Special Ed teacher, always using art as a focus of her program. She has taught visual arts in the Early Learning Department at Arts Umbrella since 2000.

Kate enjoys the spontaneity of young children and their honest and open approach to art. "I love watching the children explore the different mediums and seeing the delight on their faces as they work."
