With an MA in Arts Education, BA Honours degree in Dance, and over 35 years teaching experience, Lorraine continues to be fascinated by what we can learn through and with dance. A passionate and sensitive teacher, she teaches dance as an artistic expression, as an alternative form of literacy, as well as a venue for experiencing social and emotional learning. While focusing on age appropriate dance elements and technique, her goal is to encourage ‘thinking dancers’. With a conceptual approach, little ones are guided to think and move in concrete and abstract ways, all tied together with artistic sensibilities and a whole lot of joy. She has dance teacher training from both York University as well as the University of Utah and recently completed studies in Brain Compatible Dance Education.
In addition to being part of the Arts Umbrella family, Lorraine holds a teaching position at SFU teaching Dance in Education, teaches independently, and has professional associations with the Vancouver School Board, The Dance Centre, and the City of Vancouver.
