Post-secondary Scholarships for the Creative Sector

Creative Launchpad provides a transformational opportunity for young people who demonstrate a passion and commitment to the arts.

Creative Launchpad is a financial award made available to those students who are interested in pursuing an undergraduate degree, diploma, or certificate in Canadian post-secondary studies across the spectrum of creative fields.

2025/26 applications are now open! Applications are due April 22, 2025.

Creative Launchpad can be used for programs such as:

  • Applied Arts
    • Carving, Furniture, Graphic & Web Design, Illustration, Textiles, Ceramics, Glass, Industrial Design, Metal & Jewelry, Architecture
  • Creative Writing
    • Fiction, Juvenile, Poetry, Screenwriting & Playwriting, Spoken Word, Graphic Novel, Non-Fiction
  • Dance
    • Choreography, Classical Ballet Performance, Contemporary Ballet Performance, Contemporary/Modern Dance
  • Media Arts
    • Animation, Interactive Digital Media, New Media, Video, Audio/Sound Art
  • Music
    • Performance, Composition, Conducting, Jazz
  • Visual Arts
    • Drawing & Painting, Mixed Media, Performance, Installation, Multimedia, Material Practice, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Socially Engaged Practice
  • Theatre & Film
    • Acting, Directing, Musical Theatre, Technical & Design, Hair & Make-Up, Costume
  • Arts Administration
  • Curatorial
  • Community-Based Arts Practice

Creative Launchpad is generously funded by Jeff Mooney and Suzanne Bolton.

Eligibility

  • Are a current student of Arts Umbrella and have been actively enrolled in an Arts Umbrella program for a minimum of six months
  • Are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Will be pursuing full time studies in an approved public Canadian post-secondary program in the creative sector
  • Will have graduated from a secondary school (Academic Year 2024-2025) with a Dogwood Diploma.

 

We understand that some students may plan to take a “gap year” before pursuing post-secondary studies for varying reasons (i.e. work to raise funds or travel). In this scenario, you are still eligible to apply for the scholarship as long as you meet the following criteria:

  • The gap year does not exceed the length of one academic year between graduation year and year of application.
  • can still provide proof of enrollment at their chosen public Canadian post-secondary institution
  • can provide reasoning for the gap year in a written statement

 

**Students who have previously attended a post-secondary institution are not eligible**

To apply to this scholarship program students must complete the Student Application Form, which includes a written statement and budget.

In addition to their form, applicants must provide the following:

  • Two references, one of which must be an Arts Umbrella faculty member. Family members are not eligible references. Each reference must complete a Creative Launchpad Reference Form. All Reference forms should be directly sent to Argel Monte de Ramos, Coordinator, Community Programs, Surrey at amontederamos@artsumbrella.com
  • Documentation of acceptance in chosen post-secondary program.
