Welcome to Arts Umbrella Theatre, Music & Film

Programs at the Robert M. Ledingham School of Theatre, Music & Film nurture young artists’ creativity and build skills that benefit them in performance and in everyday life. We see how musical harmonies foster teamwork, how learning to use your voice builds self-confidence, how imagination is freed when shown a new script, and how leadership is shaped in  the director’s chair.

We offer Sessional Programs for young people ages 6-22, as well as Yearlong Programs and Intensives for students who are ready to make a bigger commitment to their performing arts education. The Pre-Professional and Post-Secondary Programs are designed for young people with a passion for their craft who are ready for a more rigorous schedule and curriculum.

Our faculty are renowned industry artists with expertise in a wide range of performing styles, from on-camera acting to ensemble performances. The curriculum—across classes as varied as acting for stage and screen, writing, singing, musical theatre, and more—is focused on process, and provides opportunities for collaborative and independent development. We also offer training in the technical aspects of theatre and film, such as lighting, sound, sets, and costumes.

Students in our performing arts classes will also have the opportunity to showcase their work—whether it’s an end-of-session classroom performance for family, an online viewing, a public performance at the 132-seat Jack and Darlene Poole Theatre at our new Granville Island location, or a school tour across Metro Vancouver.
